Whether it be flitting from tree to tree or an arduous mental journey, Birdgirl is prepared. It is amazing how much is required for those flights of fancy...

The wall piece measures 10 1/2" high by 6 3/4" wide by 3 1/2" deep (26.6 cm x 17.2 cm x 8.9 cm).

I made the "head" of this piece in the Almadi studio using stoneware clay. After the bisque, I painted it with engobes and fired it so that I could carry it home without incident. Once back in my home studio, I sculpted the helmet and wings. After multiple firings with engobe, stains, underglaze pencils, glazes, china paints and copper luster, I assembled the mask with small brass hinges and a putty epoxy. I added a bit of colored pencil work on the center face to highlight and now it is ready to hang in a special place!
